Why HEMP is the new superfood: The many benefits of Hemp seed oil as a health supplement.

Forget Chia or Flax seed, Hemp seed is the latest superfood taking the supplement market by storm with it’s impressive nutritional profile… So why haven’t we heard about it until now?

The Hemp plant is sometimes unfairly stigmatised and avoided as the ‘sober cousin of marijuana’, despite offering an array of vitamins, from Vitamin E, B6, Magnesium, Iron, Zinc, and Potassium.

Compared with it’s popular rivals Chia and Flax seed, Hemp seed is considered the healthier option by nutritionists[1] as it offers the body its optimum balanced ratio of Omega fatty acids for immune support - three Omega-6 to every one Omega-3.

But whilst it will help reduce inflammation, stabilise your blood sugar, and support fat loss, Hemp seed or the oil derived from the seeds do not have psychoactive effects like marijuana, despite being from the same Cannabis species.

Organic Hemp Oil

This is because, unlike marijuana, Hemp plants contain no or less than 0.3 percent THC (the psychoactive ingredient).

So will our Sparkling Hemp Apple & lychee flavour coconut water get you high? No, absolutely not as the 10mg of hemp oil it contains is THC free.

Additionally, hemp seed oil is different from CBD oil which is also usually derived from the hemp plant and is often used to treat mental health disorders and pain conditions.

The difference is that CBD (cannabidiol) is a concentrated extract from the plant which is mixed with a carrier oil (sometimes hemp oil) in order to be given as a supplement, alone CBD is not an oil.

So now we’ve explained what it won’t do, here’s what hemp seed oil does offer when ingested: Supports brain function, promotes hair and nail growth, has anti-aging effects on your skin, and provides a brilliant source of vegan protein.

So with many nutritionists now warning against the use of synthetic protein powders[1] - as some contain toxic chemicals and added sugar - why not chuck out that processed morning protein shake and replace it with an altogether healthier option, our Sparkling Hemp coconut water.

Koko & Karma Sparkling Hemp

More than 8,000 years ago hemp seed was first cold pressed to create oil in ancient China, users of the oil used it to moisturise their skin, their hair, and also ingested the oil believing it would support their immune system… and they were right.

Taking hemp oil on a daily basis has been found to reduce in inflammation, studies found[2], due to the omega-3s it contains.

The Omega-6s found in hemp oil include the essential fatty acid Linoleic Acid, which your body can’t make on its own and needs to be ingested.

Linoleic Acid has been proven to help fight inflammation, prevent acne, balance hormones, and support cardiovascular health.

One study found that people who are deficient in Linoleic Acid are more likely to suffer skin issues such as acne and blackheads.[3]

If you’d like to bene t from the incredible properties of hemp oil, why not try Koko & Karma’s refreshing apple and lychee Sparkling Hemp coconut water - made from all natural ingredients, with no added sugar.
